Job summary

BNSF is seeking conductor trainees in Willmar, MN. This is a full-time role (at least 40 hours/week) with on-call requirements, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Training lasts up to 19 weeks, including travel to Overland Park, KS, with potential relocation to the Willmar area and a three-year recall obligation to the posting location. Responsibilities include operating and inspecting trains, managing switching, and ensuring safety compliance in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • Able to work now and in the future without employer sponsorship.
  • At least 18 years of age or above.
  • Able to report for duty at the designated work location.
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
  • Able to work the above shift/hours.
  • Able to meet travel requirements.
  • Able to communicate in English.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
  • Able to learn to identify, interpret and use hand signals.
  • Able to visually distinguish colors and see at night.
  • Able to differentiate verbal and non-verbal sounds in the work environment.
  • Able to use hand tools and climb/descend ladders.
  • Able to work at various heights and in extreme weather.
  • Follow safety policies and wear PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate information via oral and written channels and monitor daily work.
  • Operate track switches and derails to route trains.
  • Inspect trains and equipment and report conditions per regulations.
  • Work in safety-sensitive environments under various weather conditions.
  • Adhere to safety rules, policies, and federal/state regulations.
