Job summary

Network Rail Consulting is seeking an experienced Communications Engineer based in Sacramento, CA, to join our integrated project team. You will provide technical expertise for system performance specification, costing, compliance, construction, acceptance, maintenance and operation of railway communications systems.

Qualifications

• Degree-level education or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
• Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartered status.
• Strong background in communications systems, including railway fiber and radio systems.
• Experience with high-speed railway interfaces and system integration.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
• Ability to work across a multidisciplinary team and establish relationships at all levels.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, industry standards and company policies.
• Experience managing third parties and evaluating contract performance.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a high-speed rail system that meets client requirements.
• Develop performance requirements for rail systems per standards and statutes.
• Provide guidance to keep systems specification at the forefront of safety and technology.
• Offer technical guidance on interfaces between rail systems and other works.
• Provide technical support to the project team as needed.
• Establish technical content for communications system requirements and standards.
• Update design criteria for communications systems in future contracts.
• Review safety, performance and compatibility of designs with feedback.
• Lead or participate in audits against requirements and contracts.
• Contribute to RFP development and evaluation of proposals from contractors.
