Job summary

Amtrak in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a skilled technician to inspect, test, and maintain wheel sets, brakes, and suspension on rolling stock in line with FRA and Amtrak standards.

You will troubleshoot equipment, repair doors and interior components, and use test gear to diagnose issues; welding may be required. Strong reading of mechanical drawings and hydraulic/pneumatic knowledge are important.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience troubleshooting, repair, replacement and rebuilding of mechanical equipment and systems.
• Must complete training and attain certifications applicable to assigned job.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings; knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection, testing and maintenance per 49CFR and Amtrak standards.
• Troubleshoot equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of failures.
• Repair doors, windows, interior equipment, hand brakes, brake shoes and other components.
• Use test equipment to diagnose malfunctions and repair components.
• Maintain care of materials and tools; may perform welding/burning.
