Job summary

GFT is seeking a Bridge Engineer - Rail to join our Transportation Team across multiple US offices, including Chicago, Atlanta, and others. The role focuses on complex rail bridge design, rehabilitation and inspections using AREMA standards.

Travel to projects nationwide is required, with a hybrid work model and emphasis on quality and collaboration. Ideal candidates hold a PE license, a 4+ year track record in rail structure design, and familiarity with AREMA and Class I railroads.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil/structural degree required or equivalent.
• 4+ years' experience in structural design for rail/Transit bridges.
• PE license required or eligible for licensure.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex design tasks for rail bridge projects including analysis and preparation of construction documents.
• Perform detailed design checks and ensure quality, budget, and schedule conformance.
• Travel within continental US for project work and field inspections.
• Support CADD development and organize design calculations per GFT quality plans.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering with an emphasis in structures from ABET-accredited program

Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering (ABET preferred)
