Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse for Radiotherapy Services to join the Oncology team in Washington, DC. The role delivers nursing care to patients receiving radiation therapy, educates patients and families, and coordinates care across the radiotherapy continuum within an academic medical center.

The ideal candidate holds a BSN and DC RN license with 2+ years of clinical nursing experience; oncology/RT exposure is preferred and BLS/ACLS are required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• BSN required.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia.
• Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience.
• Oncology, infusion, or radiation therapy experience preferred.
• Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred.
• Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing radiation therapy treatments.
• Perform patient assessments before, during, and after treatment sessions.
• Monitor and manage radiation-related side effects and symptoms.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, expectations, and self-care.
• Collaborate with radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, therapists, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Administer medications and supportive therapies as prescribed.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards and infection control protocols.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety activities.
