Job summary

Avera St Mary's Hospital is seeking a Radiology Technician to perform radiographic, CT, Mammography and possibly MRI imaging with accuracy and efficiency. You will collaborate with radiologists, ensuring proper exam indications and data quality for interpretation.

The role requires ARRT radiography certification with additional radiology credentials, ARDMS certification, and experience with PACS/RIS/HIS/EMR systems. Commitment to patient care and confidentiality is essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform radiographic, CT, Mammography and/or MRI imaging procedures accurately and efficiently
• Initiate appropriate intervention to radiologist or referring practitioner for urgent exams
• Review indications for exams and report inappropriate indications to supervisor
• Provide complete exam data for interpretation by radiologist
• Operate PACS/RIS/HIS/EMR systems and manage image data storage and transfer
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with legal responsibilities
• Improve image quality by evaluating accuracy and applying new techniques
• Mentor staff and students during training and orientation
• Assist with data collection and maintenance of records per standards

A Brief Overview

Accountable for the proficient operations of the radiographic and CT equipment to provide clinically diagnostic images as directed by physicians.

What you will do

• Performs radiographic, CT, Mammography and/or MRI imaging procedures accurately, efficiently and according to established standards and protocols.
• Initiates proper intervention to radiologist or referring practitioner when an exam indicates immediate attention.
• Reviews appropriate indications for exams ordered and reports inappropriate indications to supervisor.
• Provides exam data in a complete and accurate format for presentation to reading radiologist for interpretation and assists Physicians in performing specific diagnostic exams.
• Utilizes computer systems such as; PACS/RIS/HIS/EMR systems and performs general clerical duties. Archives image data for permanent storage and appropriately sends images to radiologist group. Retrieves stored images from PACS or disc back-up and make CDs successfully.
• Demonstrates an understanding of medical and legal implications and responsibilities related to the imaging reports and images to protect the Patient and the Business/Institution.
• Improves quality results by evaluating accuracy and quality of images; providing technical assistance; implementing new techniques, equipment, and procedures.
• Assists/mentors staff/student on-the-job training and orientation.
• Assists with analysis, collection and maintenance of records as required by department manager, Quality Improvement, Joint Commission, MDH, ACR standards, OSHA guidelines or as may be required by the facility or law.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience

• Associate's or certificate of completion from an accredited School of Radiology
• Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and two or more additional radiology certifications beyond this registration/certification Upon Hire or
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - American Registry For Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and two or more additional radiology certifications beyond ARRT registration/certification Upon Hire

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience

• Less than 1 year Experience in radiography
