Job summary

Avera St Mary's Hospital is seeking a Radiology Technologist to perform radiographic, CT, mammography and MRI imaging per physician orders. The role requires careful image acquisition, data entry for interpretation, and coordination with radiologists.

Experience with PACS/RIS/HIS/EMR systems is essential, along with ARRT credentials and ongoing professional development. This PRN opportunity includes day and varying shifts at the Pierre facility.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or radiology certificate from an accredited program.
• ARRT registration and two additional radiology certifications Upon Hire.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or ARDMS credentials preferred upon Hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform radiographic, CT, Mammography and MRI imaging per standards.
• Notify radiologist or clinician for exams needing immediate attention.
• Review indications and report inappropriate orders to supervisor.
• Provide complete exam data for interpretation and assist physicians.
• Operate PACS/RIS/HIS/EMR systems and manage imaging archives.
• Mentor staff and students in on-the-job training.

A Brief Overview

Accountable for the proficient operations of the radiographic and CT equipment to provide clinically diagnostic images as directed by physicians.

What you will do

• Performs radiographic, CT, Mammography and/or MRI imaging procedures accurately, efficiently and according to established standards and protocols.
• Initiates proper intervention to radiologist or referring practitioner when an exam indicates immediate attention.
• Reviews appropriate indications for exams ordered and reports inappropriate indications to supervisor.
• Provides exam data in a complete and accurate format for presentation to reading radiologist for interpretation and assists Physicians in performing specific diagnostic exams.
• Utilizes computer systems such as; PACS/RIS/HIS/EMR systems and performs general clerical duties. Archives image data for permanent storage and appropriately sends images to radiologist group. Retrieves stored images from PACS or disc back-up and make CDs successfully.
• Demonstrates an understanding of medical and legal implications and responsibilities related to the imaging reports and images to protect the Patient and the Business/Institution.
• Improves quality results by evaluating accuracy and quality of images; providing technical assistance; implementing new techniques, equipment, and procedures.
• Assists/mentors staff/student on-the-job training and orientation.
• Assists with analysis, collection and maintenance of records as required by department manager, Quality Improvement, Joint Commission, MDH, ACR standards, OSHA guidelines or as may be required by the facility or law.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• Associate's or certificate of completion from an accredited School of Radiology
• Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and two or more additional radiology certifications beyond this registration/certification Upon Hire or
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - American Registry For Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and two or more additional radiology certifications beyond ARRT registration/certification Upon Hire

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• Less than 1 year Experience in radiography
