Job summary

Avera St Mary's Hospital is seeking an Radiology Technologist to operate radiographic and CT equipment to provide clinically diagnostic images as directed by physicians.

The role includes performing radiographic, CT, Mammography and/or MRI imaging procedures, interacting with radiologists, and ensuring high-quality results while utilizing PACS/RIS/HIS/EMR systems. The position emphasizes adherence to CMS, Joint Commission, OSHA, and patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Performs radiographic, CT, Mammography and/or MRI imaging procedures accurately, efficiently and according to standards and protocols.
• Initiates proper intervention to radiologist or referring practitioner when an exam requires immediate attention.
• Reviews indications for exams ordered and reports inappropriate indications to supervisor.
• Provides exam data for interpretation and assists physicians in performing diagnostic exams.
• Uses PACS/RIS/HIS/EMR systems and performs general clerical duties.
• Archives image data for storage and sends images to radiologist group.
• Retrieves stored images from PACS or disc backup and creates CDs.
• Ensures compliance with medical-legal responsibilities for imaging reports and images.
• Improves image quality by evaluating accuracy and quality; supports new techniques and equipment.
• Mentors staff/students on-the-job training and orientation.
• Assists with data collection and maintenance of records per department and regulatory standards.

A Brief Overview

Accountable for the proficient operations of the radiographic and CT equipment to provide clinically diagnostic images as directed by physicians.

What you will do

• Performs radiographic, CT, Mammography and/or MRI imaging procedures accurately, efficiently and according to established standards and protocols.
• Initiates proper intervention to radiologist or referring practitioner when an exam indicates immediate attention.
• Reviews appropriate indications for exams ordered and reports inappropriate indications to supervisor.
• Provides exam data in a complete and accurate format for presentation to reading radiologist for interpretation and assists Physicians in performing specific diagnostic exams.
• Utilizes computer systems such as; PACS/RIS/HIS/EMR systems and performs general clerical duties.
• Archives image data for permanent storage and appropriately sends images to radiologist group.
• Retrieves stored images from PACS or disc back-up and make CDs successfully.
• Demonstrates an understanding of medical and legal implications and responsibilities related to the imaging reports and images to protect the Patient and the Business/Institution.
• Improves quality results by evaluating accuracy and quality of images; providing technical assistance; implementing new techniques, equipment, and procedures.
• Assists/mentors staff/student on-the-job training and orientation.
• Assists with analysis, collection and maintenance of records as required by department manager, Quality Improvement, Joint Commission, MDH, ACR standards, OSHA guidelines or as may be required by the facility or law.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• Associate's or certificate of completion from an accredited School of Radiology Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and two or more additional radiology certifications beyond this registration/certification
• Upon Hire or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - American Registry For Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and two or more additional radiology certifications beyond ARRT registration/certification

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• Less than 1 year Experience in radiography
