Position Highlights
Summary
- The Radiology Technologist is responsible for operating radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic images as directed by physicians and performing routine diagnostic procedures according to established standards and practices.
General Hours of Work
- Monday through Friday days with weekend, holiday, and call involvement
Education and/or Experience
- Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school. Graduate of a JRCERT accredited program in Radiologic Technology preferred. Bi-lingual experience preferred but not required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and Permit of Practice (Iowa). Must obtain CPR certification within 3 months of hire date.
Essential Functions
- Performs general radiology exams.
- If trained or certified in CT, performs CT scans, operates and calibrates CT equipment, sets scan parameters, archives scan data, and performs 3D and multiplanar imaging.
- If trained or certified in Mammography/DEXA, performs Mammography exams and DEXA scans, adjusts lead shielding, positions equipment, and ensures radiation safety.
- If trained in MRI, performs MRI scans.
- Identifies, interviews, screens patients, educates and positions them, and uses radiation precautions for age-specific patients.
- Consults with radiologists and physicians regarding exams and protocols, monitors contrast injections and patient condition.
- Prepares patients, adjusts equipment, positions and instructs them, administers contrast media, and determines exposure settings.
- Uses portable equipment for X-rays in various hospital areas, observing sterile techniques.
- Evaluates images, prepares them for reading, and maintains records as required.
- Assists with staff and student training, and performs clerical duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
