Position Overview: Performs imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care in support of the Radiology Department's mission to provide diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations:

  • Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
  • Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire.
  • Radiologist Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state where services will be performed.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
  • West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area

For Pennsylvania locations:

  • Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
  • Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within one year of hire.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
  • State criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:

  1. Rotate through all Diagnostic areas to develop technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
  2. Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols, under supervision.
  3. Produce high-quality images using imaging equipment, ensuring proper archiving.
  4. Select exposure factors based on patient specifics to optimize image quality and minimize radiation.
  5. Minimize radiation exposure through shielding, collimation, and technique optimization.
  6. Maintain knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology to enhance procedures and ensure safety.
  7. Assess patient needs, providing comfort, hygiene, and support during imaging.
  8. Prepare contrast agents, pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays as per protocols.
  9. Educate patients about procedures and answer questions.
  10. Collaborate with team members to provide quality radiology services.
  11. Engage in problem-solving and quality improvement initiatives.
  12. Adhere to ethical codes, policies, and regulations.
  13. Report equipment issues immediately.
  14. Complete required training and competencies.
  15. Position patients accurately according to protocols.
  16. Assist in coordinating daily workflow.
  17. Supervise and instruct radiology students in clinical settings.
  18. Ensure all components of the imaging process are completed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must meet physical demands such as:

  • Differentiating shades of gray on monitors
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Wearing lead aprons weighing 8-15 pounds
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Carrying items up to 20 pounds
WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Includes exposure to minimal radiation, airborne particles, bodily fluids, and operation of imaging equipment.
