Qualifications

  • Must be eligible, or working to be eligible, to sit for the ARRT certification examination. Maintains a current BLS certification or must obtain it within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the health care team to ensure patient well-being.
  • Conducts basic radiologic studies using C-arm and portable equipment within the department, ED, or surgery suites.
  • Employs sterile technique and protocol during surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of positioning and anatomy to obtain the required views.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff across the organization.
  • Operates within ALARA radiation safety standards.
  • Obtains billing data and ensures procedures align with diagnoses on requisitions.
  • Provides a safe environment by identifying and reporting health and safety hazards.
  • Uses protective equipment for self and others during shifts.
  • Evaluates imaging quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Continuously seeks new approaches to improve quality and timeliness of imaging services.
  • Follows department policies and all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Participates in staff development and in-service programs.
  • Mentors new employees as requested.

Position Summary

Under the leadership of the Director, Medical Imaging, the Non-Registered Radiologic Technologist is an active member of the Medical Imaging team that delivers professional medical imaging services consistent with the strategic vision, goals, philosophy, and direction of the department and CRHS. The Non-Registered Radiologic Technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level with minimal to no supervision from the Director. This position maintains the qualifications to provide care for patients across the full spectrum of age groups: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Basic Qualifications
  • Education: Requires an Associate’s degree in Radiology or Radiologic Sciences or the successful completion of a technical or vocational certificate.
  • Experience: This is an entry level job that requires up to two years of work-related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Licensure, Registrations & Certifications: Requires completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program, and must be eligible, or working to be eligible, to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination. Maintains a current certification in Basic Life Support (If BLS verification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.)
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the health care team members to ensure the patient's well-being as evidenced by staff/client feedback.
  • Conducts basic radiologic studies using C-arm and portable equipment within the department, ED, or in surgery suites.
  • Employs the use of sterile techniques and protocol during surgical procedures.
  • Processes and demonstrates a detailed knowledge of positioning and anatomy to facilitate the desired views as per physician orders.
  • Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team with positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff in all departments of the organization.
  • Operates within the A.L.A.R.A radiation standards of care.
  • Obtains required billing data and account registration ensuring that the ordered procedure is appropriate for the diagnosis on the requisition.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees through identifying, correcting and reporting health and safety hazards.
  • Ensures the use of all necessary protective and monitoring equipment (badges, aprons, etc.) for self and others throughout the work shift.
  • Evaluates Medical Imaging quality, satisfaction, and regulatory standards to ensure compliance.
  • Works to continually identify new approaches that improve the quality and timeliness of Medical Imaging services provided.
  • Uses appropriate IV sterile techniques in the administration of diagnostic contrast media and is knowledgeable about signs and symptoms of reactions.
  • Follows all department policies and procedures and ensures compliance with all federal and state laws, regulations, and JCAHO requirements.
  • Participates in staff development programs, and regularly scheduled in-service programs.
  • Mentors new employees as requested.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
