Job summary

St. Joseph's/Candler in Savannah, GA seeks a radiologic technologist to perform radiographs and assist with fluoroscopic exams under physician supervision. You will ensure sterile technique and ALARA principles while protecting patient and staff.

Responsibilities include accurate documentation, order verification, adherence to JC, OSHA and ACR guidelines, and safe contrast administration per policy. Strong communication with radiologists and team is essential.

Qualifications

  • BLS certification is required.
  • ARRT registry eligibility with requirement to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Associate degree in radiologic technology is preferred.
  • 1 year radiologic technology experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately enters procedural documentation and patient charges per department guidelines.
  • Obtains/verifies orders from physician offices and scans orders in Imaging system.
  • Maintains compliance with JC, OSHA, and ACR guidelines; ensures aseptic technique and ALARA.
  • Provides safe contrast administration according to policy and uses required medication access systems.
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment and keeps documentation up to date.
  • Maintains and operates department equipment safely and communicates issues to management.

Job description

  • The radiologic technologist obtains radiographs of various parts of the body for assessment, diagnosis, or staging of disease or injuries. Assists with fluoroscopic examinations and invasive procedures while ensuring sterile technique while under direct supervision of the physician. Assumes responsibility for the protection of themselves, the patient and others by adhering to prescribed safety standards (ALARA) outlining the use of ionizing radiation. Follows departmental contrast policy when administering any type of contrast. Practices infection control per hospital policy. Maintains open communication and is available to component organizations and practitioner sites for consultations.

  • Core Job Functions
  • Accurately enters procedural documentation and patient charges per department guidelines. Areas of concern in patient history or on imaging are identified and communicated to radiologist to ensure proper action. Completes required documentation in department's PACS.
  • Obtains/verifies orders from Physician offices. Verifies that the appropriate diagnosis is on orders. Places/scans orders in computer system for Imaging.
  • Knowledgeable of JC, OSHA, and ACR guidelines concerning the care of the patient. Demonstrates knowledge of proper aseptic technique, Universal Precautions, Time/Out, Read back/Verify and ALARA. Demonstrates knowledge of patients rights and use of required patient identification.
  • Provide excellent patient care as related to contrast administration policy. Compliant with use of PYXIS for medication access and verification.
  • Routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment is performed in accordance with manufacturer recommendation and department policy. Work orders involving equipment are entered promptly into the system. Staff education regarding care and operation of equipment is conducted annually and as needed.
  • Maintains national certification/registry. Is competent in the use of all departmental equipment and is able to perform all procedures effectively.
  • Maintains and works safely with equipment. Reports any issues with equipment to management for correction or repair. Uses Safe Patient Handling system appropriately.
