Job description

Job Summary:

Per the Radiologic Technologist Career Ladder Agreement, a Rad Tech II will possess a minimum of two registries. Under the direction of the Imaging Services Director and Radiologist, the technologist will provide services embracing the MVL and Core Values. The role involves performing diagnostic imaging procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing diseases, injuries, and pain management, as well as providing imaging guidance. The technologist operates imaging equipment to produce body images and performs technological functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient care, utilizing efficient and safe processes.

Specific Responsibilities:

REGISTERED RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST (RAD TECH II)

  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Properly identify patients using two identifiers (Name & DOB) and maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation, demonstrating tact, courtesy, and poise, using AIDET principles.
  • Provide radiological services appropriate for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, complying with radiation safety policies (ALARA) to minimize radiation exposure.
  • Administer ionizing radiation, determining exposure factors based on patient size and the area involved, adjusting equipment controls to produce images with proper detail and accuracy.
  • Maintain imaging equipment, stock procedure rooms, and ensure cleanliness and readiness for use.
  • Perform routine quality control and maintenance, diagnose malfunctions, and coordinate repairs.
  • Operate mobile radiologic equipment in various settings such as operating rooms, emergency rooms, or bedside.
  • Process and review images for quality and proper identification, preparing images for radiologist or physician review.
  • Complete documentation, records, logs, and reports of work performed.
  • Orient and train new staff and students.
  • Report incidents and errors promptly, participate in process improvement activities, and contribute to quality and safety targets.
  • Perform routine duties independently with minimal supervision, knowing when to escalate issues.
  • Maintain clinical competency across multiple modalities, including preparing and administering contrast agents as directed by radiologists.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physics related to CT/MRI procedures and equipment operation.
  • Provide quality examinations efficiently, handle high-volume and high-stress situations, and apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff and students.
  • Perform additional modalities once competency is achieved and undertake other duties as assigned.
