Job Summary

Performs a wide variety of radiographic examinations and related procedures to produce quality images/films for diagnostic evaluations. Prepares patients for exams using general and specialized radiographic/fluoroscopic equipment, camera, potables, c-arms, and other ancillary equipment. Complies with all radiation and safety rules and regulations, and participates with physicians in complex procedures involving insertions of catheters and/or administration of contrast media. Assists in the Emergency Department on evening, afternoon, and weekend shifts.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Performs radiographic exams, receiving orders, preparing the room, and checking equipment and supplies.
  2. Positions patients, including lifting and stabilizing incapacitated patients, and arranging supportive devices.
  3. Checks and adjusts equipment settings; makes computations and calibrations; activates machinery for exposures; repositions patients as needed.
  4. Processes films, transports portable equipment, and takes exposures at bedside.
  5. Assists radiologists and technologists in complex examinations, including angiograms, biopsies, and procedures involving contrast media or insertion of devices.
  6. Determines appropriate contrast media based on prescribed criteria.
  7. Maintains radiation safety, including proper equipment adjustments and shielding.
  8. Communicates with patients, explains procedures, provides instructions, and reassures anxious patients.
  9. Maintains equipment and work area cleanliness, follows sterile techniques, and performs preventive maintenance.
  10. Handles uncooperative or distressed patients and initiates emergency procedures when necessary.
  11. Assumes charge responsibilities, provides direction to staff, and manages workflow as needed.
  12. Ensures proper record-keeping, completes reports, and maintains documentation.
  13. Attends staff meetings and in-services, and assists with clerical tasks when necessary.
Qualifications

Educational / Minimum Requirements: High School diploma and a 2-year accredited Radiologic Technology program.

Licensure/Certification: Registered through ARRT and licensed in Connecticut. Advanced certifications in CT or Mammography are highly recommended.

Other Requirements: General orientation, annual fire/safety/infection control training, Healthcare Provider CPR certification, and compliance with hospital mandates.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand most of the day, lift over 50 lbs occasionally, and perform physical tasks including bending, stooping, and reaching. Hearing and sight must be corrected to normal.

Work Environment: Exposure to radiation, chemicals, variable lighting, and room temperatures.

Cognitive Skills: Excellent communication, reading, mathematical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
