Job Summary
The Radiology Technologist Special Procedures II performs specialized radiologic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating diseases. This role requires expertise in handling advanced imaging equipment, ensuring patient safety, and following precise protocols to obtain high-quality diagnostic images. The Technologist collaborates with medical teams to deliver comprehensive patient care and supports the maintenance of imaging technology. They also assist in leadership responsibilities within the Special Procedures department.
Essential Functions
- Provides technical skills involving radiology and fluoroscopy. Takes, labels, and prints radiographs of various parts of the body, intra-operatively, and uploads properly to electronic records.
- Ensures all persons in the room are properly shielded before activating x-ray.
- Maintains records of apron quality, performs annual apron checks for protection.
- Cleans and maintains x-ray equipment; ensures timely preventive maintenance and regulatory surveys.
- Educates staff on radiation safety and ALARA principles.
- Tracks dosimetry badges; maintains badge cycle and process.
- Participates in regulatory surveys as needed.
- Applies aseptic, surgical, and radiological techniques (tray preparation, sterile draping, patient prep).
- Prepares equipment and instruments for interventional/invasive procedures.
- Verifies informed consent and prepares patients for procedures.
- Responds to physician needs during procedures.
- Provides exam education and post-procedure instructions to patients.
- Performs digital imaging techniques accurately.
- Manages inventory of angiography items and purchases supplies cost-effectively.
- Performs hemostasis protocols and uses proper techniques for catheter removal.
- Follows sedation policies and monitoring protocols for interventions.
- Ensures workflow completion and reviews examinations for technical accuracy.
- Performs other duties as assigned and complies with policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- 1-3 years of clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
- 3-5 years of experience in Special Procedures/IR/ASC preferred.
