Job summary

University of Washington Medical Center is seeking a Health Information Technician 3 in Seattle to manage radiology images, service, and information for staff, patients, and outside facilities. The role emphasizes confidentiality, accuracy, and independent problem solving in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include registering and routing images in RIS/Imagecast, digitizing films for PACS, handling releases for law enforcement and attorneys, and coordinating image transfers and system

Qualifications

  • RHIT accredited program completion and RHIT eligibility.
  • Experience in health information management preferred.
  • Strong attention to accuracy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, register, and create folders for images in RIS/Imagecast.
  • Digitize outside films for long-term availability on PACS.
  • Provide UWMC images to outside sources with proper release.
  • Scan releases into records and interface with law enforcement as needed.
  • Provide images, schedule, and bill for copies or CDs at no cost.
  • Expedite delivery of images via FedEx, Shuttle, US Mail, or courier.
  • Serve as primary contact for Radiology Records policies and PACS/RIS.
  • Investigate incomplete or inaccurate cases for proper action.
  • Import outside CD/images using TeleRAD, LifeIMAGE, BEAM, and eMix.
  • Transfer/Import images including RIS scheduling and PACS merging.
  • Answer calls; handle RIS/PACS tech issues and patient inquiries.
  • Act as Acting Lead when the Lead is on leave.
  • Coordinate research requests to access patient records.
  • Prepare and send requested patient images in proper format.
  • Orient/train new physicians/nurses/staff on Radiology workflow.
  • Basic troubleshooting of RIS, PACS, and related systems.
  • Interact with law enforcement and attorneys regarding releases.
  • Respond to patient questions about radiology procedures.
