Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
General tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Greets and introduces self to patient.
- May assist physicians with special procedures utilizing specialized digital equipment such as angiography and CT equipment.
- Attends regularly scheduled department meetings i.e., staff, in-service, training.
- Checks requisition/order forms for completion, physician notes, and/or special instructions.
- Confirms patient identification by verbal confirmation, ID band, etc, uses 2 patient identifiers.
- Consults with radiologist and/or other physicians regarding examination appropriateness when necessary.
- Participates in the quality control of equipment, performs daily QC for all xray rms.
- Describes nature and time requirements of the requested examination to the patient.
- Develops exposed film and reloads cassettes with unexposed film; returns cassettes to proper location.
- Assists in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers and radiographic tables.
- Identifies problems and communicates (verbal and written) to immediate supervisor; offers appropriate solutions.
- Keeps room/work station neat and orderly.
- Maintains and rotates supplies/inventory.
- Participates in professional organizations as required and maintains continuing education requirements according State, City, and professional organization (ARRT) guidelines.
- Participates in the teaching of patients and families and ensures proper documentation.
- Performs and/or assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
- Participates in the Quality Control Program.
- Performs related paperwork and operation of the RIS to process patients/examinations.
- Performs visual preventive maintenance checks, records and reports results to appropriate personnel. Initiates equipment service when applicable.
- Practices sterile technique, prevents cross contamination to patients and instruments, and practices appropriate infection control.
- Prepares and maintains room and ensures emergency kit is accurately supplied and dated.
- Prepares and/or administers contrast media i.e., orally, iv, rectally as instructed by the Radiologist and documents.
- Promotes good interpersonal relationships with superiors, staff, and patients.
- Provides patient with gowning instructions.
- Provides patient/doctor with proper examination supplies and information.
- Provides radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards.
- Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures.
- Records and ensures that assigned staff document appropriately in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Restocks and maintains assigned work station/equipment in an orderly fashion.
- Schedules patients in section and coordinates scheduling with other departments to ensure good Patient-flow when necessary.
- Prepares daily work log and flash ID as required (when RIS is down).
- Prepares and positions patient for special procedures; obtains scout films, sets-up trays.
- May receive and register incoming patients as needed.
- Reviews exposed radiographs for proper positioning, technique, and identification.
- Utilizes hospital/department communications, telephone and paging systems appropriately.
- Maintains patient examination volumes within departmental productivity standards.
- Performs high-quality diagnostic exams with minimal or no supervision.
- Adheres and conforms to Departmental/Hospital guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Supervises technical and clerical staff in the completion of tasks.
- Coordinates the relief of staff as needed.
- Completes all paperwork where applicable to include shift reports.
- Coordinates and provides orientation and in-service training to technical staff on examination procedures, equipment management/service, equipment quality control, and film processor quality control.
- Oversees and maintains an efficient patient-flow.
- Coordinates exam scheduling with other areas.
- Ensures that staff maintain patient examination volumes within departmental productivity standards.
- State certification for contrast injection on state licenses.
- QC testing of CT Scanner to include daily water phantom tests and all other QC as required.
- Adheres and conforms to hospital/department guidelines, policies, and procedures, including infection control policies (demonstrates proper hand-washing).
- Adheres to departmental attendance standards.
- Communicates effectively with patients, visitors and colleagues.
- Ability to make safe choices to prevent harm.
- Uphold the mission in demonstrating the commitment to provide safe, high-quality healthcare to its patients.
- Technologists will introduce themselves to Nursing Staff assigned to patient receiving portable x-ray.
- Technologists are to document examination and technical issues in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- All other duties as required by the department.
Minimum Qualifications
Assignment Level II
1. Valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
1. Knowledgeable in Radiology Information Systems: Picture Archiving & Communication Systems (PACS).
2. Performs diagnostic examinations using appropriate protocols and positioning.
3. Practices radiation safety techniques.
4. Continued demonstration of equipment competency.
5. Use of X-Ray/Fluoroscopy, C-Arm, equipment.
6. Microsoft Office/PC.
7. Navigation of EMR.
