Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) seeks an experienced Radiation Safety professional to oversee broad radiation safety programs and guide staff under the Radiation Safety Officer. The role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations across all university locations and provides technical leadership for the radiation protection program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Experience communicating technical information to diverse audiences.
• Ability to respond to radiological emergencies as directed.

Responsibilities

• Stewards the University's Broadscope Radioactive Materials Program.
• Oversees Emergency Response and Radioactive Materials Security programs.
• Manages Dosimetry and bioassay programs and assists with dose investigations.
• Prepares for and attends Safeguards meetings with RSO support.
• Oversees radon and other environmental radioactivity programs as applicable.
• Collaborates with EHS team to support the department's mission.
• Oversees laboratory-based counting equipment and systems.
• Supports leadership of radiation protection office staff when RSO is unavailable.
• Maintains internal procedures and recordkeeping processes.
• Assists in implementing radiation safety services across the university.

Education
