Job summary

RSI Environmental is seeking a Radiation Safety Technician to support radiation protection programs at client sites in the San Francisco area. You will help ensure safe operations, operate detectors, and prepare Radiation Work Permits while maintaining compliance with regulations.

The role involves field monitoring, training, and incident response, with a focus on ALARA principles and accurate documentation. A background check and drug screening are required.

Qualifications

• Background check and pre-employment drug screening required.
• Minimum education: High School or GED.

Responsibilities

• Provide general technical support, guidance and monitoring in radiation protection to assist personnel in safe performance of assignments.
• Check in and operate standard radiation detectors (gas-flow proportional detectors, dose rate meters, gamma spectroscopy detectors, etc.).
• Write, enforce, and provide job coverage for Radiation Work Permits (RWPs).
• Perform and document radiation scans, direct, and smear surveys.
• Provide radiological support in packaging and shipping samples (soil, building material).
• Select proper instrumentation for various project needs.
• Establish and implement workplace controls and ALARA.
• Provide waste management support including characterization and disposal.
• Provide job coverage for work involving respirators, hazardous conditions, confined spaces.
• Provide emergency response to radiological incidents.
• Operate, maintain and review measurement data to ensure safety compliance.
• Understand and implement local, state and federal regulations.
• Conduct radworker and continued training for site personnel.
