Job summary

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) is seeking a qualified radiology technologist to perform diagnostic imaging and prepare patients and equipment for interpretation. You will verify studies in RIS/PACS, maintain quality control, and assist with complex procedures while ensuring patient safety.

Requires an Associate's Degree in Radiology, state licensure, and ARRT certification, with CPR and ALARA knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and reviews requests for radiologic studies.
  • Assesses patient condition and special requirements.
  • Explains procedures and prepares patients for radiographic exams.
  • Interviews patients and reviews clinical data for contraindications.
  • Positions patients to maximize diagnostic yield while following ALARA.
  • Operates radiographic equipment across department and bedside settings.
  • Selects technical factors to produce high-quality radiographs.
  • Maintains equipment and x-ray rooms in proper working condition.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions and necessary repairs.
  • Performs clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assists with higher-complexity exams such as arteriography and myelography.
  • May perform venipuncture as required.

Overview

Performs diagnostic imaging studies in accordance with physician orders and departmental guidelines. Prepares and transports patients as necessary. Prepares imaging equipment, room, and images, as need for interpretation. Verifies and completes studies in RIS and PACS. Maintains Quality Control on Equipment as Instructed.

Performs diagnostic imaging studies in accordance with physician orders and departmental guidelines. Prepares and transports patients as necessary. Prepares imaging equipment, room, and images, as need for interpretation. Verifies and completes studies in RIS and PACS. Maintains Quality Control on Equipment as Instructed.

Responsibilities
  • Receives and reviews requests for radiologic studies.
  • Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.
  • Explains and prepares patients for all radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
  • Interviews patients and reviews available clinical data from charts to alert nurses and/or physicians to possible contraindications for procedures.
  • Utilizes extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes to properly and safely position patients for maximum diagnostic yield.
  • Operates highly complex radiographic equipment within the Radiology Department, operating suites, and at the patient's bedside.
  • Selects technical factors to ensure high-quality radiographs while adhering to A.L.A.R.A. (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) standards.
  • Maintains radiographic equipment and x-ray rooms in proper working condition.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel.
  • Performs various clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assists with higher-complexity examinations such as arteriography, myelography, and related procedures.
  • May perform venipuncture as required for specific examinations.
  • Performs work of equal skill, effort, and responsibility as directed.
  • May perform work at a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follows hospital exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as part of a department/unit team both interdepartmentally and intradepartmentally to facilitate departmental goals and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Education
  • Associate's Degree in Radiology from an approved two-year program required.
Experience
  • Up to one (1) year of experience preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of ALARA guidelines.
  • Must be able to meet hospital on-call requirements.
Licenses & Certifications
  • State licensure required.
  • ARRT certification required.
