The Radiology Technologist Supervisor-Specialist Team provides day-to-day supervision for an assigned Radiology area (e.g., Diagnostic, Breast Imaging, Stony Point, CT/MRI, 3D lab). Responsibilities include STAR Service, legal and regulatory compliance, clinical operations, human resources, safety & quality, customer service, leadership, and fiscal responsibility.
This position ensures all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed by qualified staff, of the highest quality, and follow radiation safety principles of ALARA, ACR Guidelines for imaging practices, and ACR Guidelines for MRI Safety, if applicable. Ensure compliance with VCU and VCUHS policies and procedures.
The role collaborates with lead technologists and staff to solve problems, implement new initiatives, and promote departmental safety, quality, and teamwork. It reports to the Modality Manager and oversees clinical functions and processes for the assigned Radiology area, ensuring operational excellence, safety, and cost-effective care.
This position supervises, maintains, and improves business functions related to its responsibilities, develops staff education and competencies, and maintains technical competency within the scope of practice for its specialty.
Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) is required. Additionally, one of the following specialty registries related to the department is required: ARRT in Mammography, CT, MRI, CV or VIR, or other specified specialties.
Current ARRT certification and relevant specialty registries are required.
Minimum of two (2) years of Lead Tech or equivalent Diagnostic Radiology experience.
Minimum of three (3) years of technical experience, leadership experience, and prior work in an academic medical center environment are preferred.
Graduation from a JRC-Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology recognized by the ARRT.
Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Radiation Science, Business, or a related field; Master's Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
Coordinate daily workflow and supervise the team. Seek advice from the Manager for major issues.
Supervise all team members in the assigned modality, cover unplanned absences, and provide after-hours coverage as needed.
Physical ability to lift 20-50 lbs., exposure to hazardous substances, and ability to perform activities such as standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, and reaching. Must handle a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and frequent customer interactions.
