Job summary

Formlabs in Somerville, MA seeks an R&D Workshop Specialist to maintain workspace organization and efficiency across our hardware research & development facility. You will keep engineering workspaces organized, stock resources, and ensure 5S standards are followed so teams can move quickly and safely.

You’ll partner with engineers and technicians to manage inventory, implement standardized storage, and support continuous improvement of floor processes.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years in a lab, shop, warehouse, manufacturing, or operations support role.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Comfort maintaining inventory and using ordering & procurement systems.
• Good communication skills and a collaborative, service-oriented approach.
• Working knowledge of EHS and lab safety standards or willingness to learn.
• Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs around equipment.
• Excellent spatial organization and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
• Heads-on, collaborative, and self-directed work style.

Responsibilities

• Workspace organization: maintain clean, organized R&D spaces with 5S principles.
• Inventory & ordering: manage consumables, hardware, and parts, reorder as needed.
• Standardization & best practices: uphold storage standards and labeling conventions.
• Safety & compliance: enforce lab safety and clear egress paths.
• Continuous improvement & culture: partner with engineers to surface friction points and propose fixes.
