Qualifications

We are seeking an R&D Swiss Machinist responsible for manufacturing engineering prototypes, test fixtures, and modifying existing parts to support product development. This individual will work from drawings, models, sketches, and verbal instructions while collaborating closely with engineering teams to create high-quality prototype components, assemblies, and fixtures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Creates CNC programs with PartMaker, sets up Swiss CNC machines, and operates equipment to create parts and fixtures.
  • Operates manual equipment, including mills, lathes, hand tools, and finishing equipment such as bead blasters and sanders, to create prototype parts, assemblies, and test fixturing.
  • Perform inspection on parts and fixtures to ensure they are within specifications.
  • Works from sketches, prints, models, and/or verbal instructions.
  • May review CAD drawings and models and collaborate with engineers on design for manufacturing (DFM) as part of the product development process.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and equipment upkeep.
  • Documents machining activities, setup details, inspection results, and related information as needed to support prototype development and vendor transfers.
Expected Areas of Competence (i.e., knowledge, skills, and abilities)
  • Strong working knowledge and ability to operate Swiss-type CNC equipment.
  • Ability to operate manual and CNC equipment, as well as conventional metal cutting and plastic working equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following applicable procedures, work instructions, and quality requirements.
  • Working knowledge of stainless steel, titanium, UHMWPE plastic, ceramics, cold and hot rolled steel, brass, tool steels, aluminum, rubber, and castings.
  • Ability to utilize hand tools to assemble and/or modify parts and fixtures.
  • Capable of laying out work in the most cost-effective manner from the information available.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering teams on product design and prototype development.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Education/Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating Swiss Type CNC machinery in a manufacturing environment
  • Technical degree, vocational training, apprenticeship, or certification in machining or a related field preferred.

$45.97- $52.88/hour
