Job summary

Scripps Research in La Jolla, CA is seeking a Financial Analyst II, R&D Strategic Finance to support financial strategy across a complex portfolio of sponsored research and institutional funding. You will partner with PIs and leadership to provide forward-looking insights, manage funding constraints, and translate data into actionable guidance.

This on-campus, four-days-per-week role requires a finance degree and 2+ years of financial analysis; proficiency in Excel, Workday ERP, and Power BI is

Qualifications

• 2+ years of financial analysis in life sciences or similarly complex settings.
• Experience with ERP systems (Workday) and strong Excel skills.
• Ability to translate financial data for PIs and leadership.
• On-campus role requiring 4 days/week onsite from La Jolla campus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain complex financial projections, including grant-funded runway analyses, scenario modeling, and long-range planning across multiple funding sources.
• Monitor funding utilization, identify risks (funding gaps, over-expenditures, timing misalignments), and propose mitigation strategies.
• Manage multiple reporting deliverables and deadlines, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting to PIs, leadership, and external stakeholders.
• Serve as a primary financial partner to PIs and research teams, translating financial data into guidance on spending, staffing, and funding strategy with oversight and compliance.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records across multiple systems, ensuring proper setup and alignment with award requirements by reviewing and interpreting funding agreements and adjusting award and plan lines as needed.
• Ensure organized and audit-ready documentation in accordance with institutional and sponsor requirements.
