Overview:

Location: Boston, MA
Compensation: $120 – 125K Base Salary + bonus and relocation package. For relocation, the company will pay for packing/moving and 30-day temporary housing.

Keys to the Job: Food Labeling Regulations, Packaging Artwork, System Automation, Supervisory or Management experience is a must. Responsible for regulatory compliance and label accuracy for all products. This person should be experienced in interpreting regulations and implementing sound guidance and company policy to comply with applicable regulations within the United States.

Job Description - Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in designing packaging artwork, including nutritional facts, claims, and labeling compliant with food industry standards.
  • Comprehensive understanding of food labeling regulations, with familiarity of international regulatory frameworks preferred.
  • Strategic and analytical mindset with exceptional problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, paired with proficiency in Microsoft Office, formula management systems, and automation tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and leading teams to meet deadlines.
  • Proactive and self-driven, with a commitment to staying abreast of regulatory and industry developments.
  • Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Nutrition, or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in regulatory affairs within the food industry, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee compliance of all products with applicable regulatory frameworks in the regions of distribution.
  • Direct the development and implementation of labeling and packaging designs, ensuring alignment with legal mandates, brand identity, and product consistency.
  • Administer the formulation, ingredient approval, and labeling specifications through the organization’s proprietary formula management system.
  • Provide expert guidance to cross-functional teams (e.g., R&D, Marketing, Quality Assurance) on regulatory requirements for new and existing products.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve complex regulatory challenges related to food labeling and compliance.
  • Represent the organization in engagements with external regulatory bodies, trade associations, and industry groups to address legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing regulatory and labeling team, fostering operational excellence and compliance.
  • Monitor and interpret global regulatory trends, guidelines, and legislative changes, advising senior leadership to ensure proactive adaptation.
  • Champion a culture of safety, ensuring a secure work environment in collaboration with management and frontline supervisors.
  • Food Safety Accountability: Responsible for ensuring accurate label content, including allergen declarations, in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly manages a team within the Regulatory and Development Department, overseeing recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and conflict resolution in alignment with organizational policies and legal requirements.
