Tutor in Watertown, MA is seeking a hands-on Hardware Shop Coordinator to run the day-to-day of the R&D Garage. You will own tool storage, parts, and workspace layout, enabling engineers to work efficiently around 3D printers, CNC machines, and robots.

No degree is required; you should be comfortable with hand and power tools, lift 40+ lbs, and help keep the shop clean and safe. This is a practical, in-house role with room to grow as the team expands.

Qualifications

• Extremely organized and detail-oriented.
• Hands-on builder who prefers action over planning.
• Able to lift 40+ lbs and operate a pallet stacker.
• Comfortable with hand and power tools.
• Willing to work around robots and machine tools.
• No degree required.

Responsibilities

• Give every tool, part, material, and project a labeled home.
• Plan the layout as the team grows; order, receive, and assemble furniture, workbenches, and racks.
• Have tools, a computer, a desk, and a workspace ready for every new engineer on day one.
• Buy shop supplies and keep consumables stocked.
• Manage receipt of larger orders like furniture or components.
• Keep tools organized and maintain the 3D printers, CNC machine, and other shop equipment.
• Willing to run the CNC occasionally for small jobs.
• Set a clear, visible cleanliness standard with simple daily or weekly routines.
• Keep shared areas, storage, and the robot testing space clean.
• Purge hardware regularly; sell valuable items, recycle the rest.
• Manage teardown of retired robots and recover parts worth keeping.
• Handle scrap, recycling, and removal of bulk material like crates and pallets.
