Bluefors seeks a Toolmaker I to join our R&D Machine Shop in Syracuse, NY. Produce prototype parts, tooling, and components to validate new concepts and designs, with precision and teamwork.

You will study blueprints and instructions, set up and operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and related tools, and verify tolerances with measuring equipment. The role requires apprentice training or equivalent experience, 5+ years in a job shop or prototype environment, and strong math, GD&T, and

Qualifications

• Apprentice training or equivalent experience required.
• 5+ years machining in a job shop or prototype environment preferred.
• Experience with copper and stainless steel machining.
• Ability to read blueprints, sketches, and instructions.
• GD&T familiarity preferred.
• Set up and use measuring tools accurately.
• Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Work independently and with a team.
• Dependable, adaptable, and committed to quality workmanship.
• Commitment to safety and company values.
• Excellent command of English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, sketches, models, and verbal instructions to determine machining requirements.
• Set up and operate manual machines (lathes, milling, grinders, etc.).
• Machine and finish prototype and custom parts to precise tolerances.
• Verify conformance of parts using measuring tools.
• Perform hand and bench work as required.
• Create specialized tooling for manufacturing and R&D.
• Modify existing parts per engineering instructions.
• Meet deadlines and support multiple departments.
• Perform housekeeping and preventive maintenance on machines.
• Maintain records and documentation.
• Adhere to Bluefors quality and safety standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
