Job summary

Elgen Staffing in East Syracuse is seeking an experienced Toolmaker responsible for designing, fabricating, and maintaining tooling for production operations. You will rely on drawings, CAD models, and sketches to create tooling and fixtures, and you will fabricate, repair, and modify tooling with high precision.

The role requires a journeyperson Toolmaker with ten years of shop experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to read blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines manufacturing methods and sequence of operations for assigned tasks.
• Sets up and operates manual machine tools such as lathes, mills and grinders to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
• Examines standard or previously used tools and jigs and fixtures or other such items and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of tools and fixtures.
• Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product as required.
• Uses precision measurement instruments such as micrometers, height gauges and calipers to ensure all work meets the required specifications.
• Adjusts, troubleshoots and repairs worn or broken tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, etc.
• Assists Manufacturing and Engineering with machining, finishing and assembly processes.
• Participates in job launches.
• Meets quality and quantity standards for the position.
• Adheres to all safety policies and practices, consistently uses personal protective equipment, and practices good housekeeping.
• Maintains regular on time attendance and adheres to company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
• Proactively supports the ISO process approach to quality management and the Syteline MIS system.
• Performs other tasks as directed.

Our client, a nationwide manufacturer of precision metals and plastics components, has an immediate need for an experienced Toolmaker, to join our winning team in East Syracuse.

Our candidate of choice will be responsible for designing, fabricating, and maintaining specialized tools and fixtures used in manufacturing operations. You’ll rely on engineering drawings, CAD models, and sketches to create tooling for production use. Additionally, you will fabricate, repair, and modify metalworking tooling, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges, along with performing complex toolmaking tasks with a high degree of precision and craftsmanship.
