Job summary

BD is seeking an experienced R&D Procurement Manager in Durham, NC to drive procurement-enabled innovation throughout the product development lifecycle. You will partner with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to accelerate prototype sourcing and supplier qualification.

In this role, you’ll lead supplier qualifications, build a robust network of automation and precision manufacturers, and push for cost efficiency while maintaining high quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, SCM, procurement, business administration, or related field.
• 5 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, supplier development, or project management.
• Proven track record in supplier scouting, qualification, development, and base optimization.
• Ability to travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

• Embed procurement within cross-functional development teams to accelerate timelines.
• Engage suppliers early to leverage technical expertise and innovation potential.
• Drive rapid prototyping and collaboration to shorten development cycles.
• Develop a global supplier network in automation, electronics and precision manufacturing.
• Lead supplier qualifications, technical assessments, and capability evaluations.
• Support make-vs-buy, modularization and design-to-cost initiatives.
• Represent supplier voice in design reviews and APQP activities.
• Own procurement performance metrics during development and launch.
