Job summary

E Ink Corporation in Billerica, MA, is seeking a Process Engineer to join our Research Division. You will develop and optimize lab- and pilot-scale coating, lamination, and device-fabrication processes while collaborating with R&D, product, and manufacturing teams to translate innovations into prototypes.

The role combines hands-on experimentation with data analysis, procedure development, and documentation, with emphasis on safety and quality in a cleanroom environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline with ≥2 years of industrial experience, or a master’s degree in one of these fields.
• Ability to plan and execute experiments, collect data accurately, analyze results, and draw sound conclusions.
• Experience developing, executing, or optimizing experimental procedures, fabrication processes, or manufacturing methods.
• Ability to identify sources of process variation and troubleshoot equipment, materials, and processes.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with scientists, engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to summarize observations, results, and recommendations.
• Commitment to laboratory safety and handling chemical materials per EH&S requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Develop, execute, and optimize lab- and pilot-scale coating, lamination, and device-fabrication processes.
• Plan and conduct experiments to evaluate process parameters, materials, equipment settings, and device-build conditions.
• Analyze and interpret process data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
• Investigate process variability, equipment issues, and device defects using structured troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Develop robust procedures for multilayer coating, lamination, cutting, assembly, and testing.
• Own assigned lab and pilot equipment, including operation, maintenance coordination, and documentation.
• Evaluate process capability, repeatability, yield, and quality during experimental builds.
• Interface with electronics, coating, lamination, mechanical, and process equipment to perform research and fabrication operations.
• Perform mechanical testing of parts, films, and materials as needed.
• Organize and maintain inventory of parts, materials, tools, and consumables.
• Prepare work instructions, SOPs, technical reports, and presentations.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and manufacturing teams to define experimental plans and resolve issues.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and quality requirements.
