Job description

R&D Pastry Chef
Salary Range: $65K to $75K

Dessert Holdings is looking for an R&D Pastry Chef to join our team based out of our Aurora, CO facility. This role is for a results and detail-oriented Pastry Chef with a strong creative pastry background. The R&D Pastry Chef will create prototype samples with direction from customer briefs and culinary leads for customer review and approval. They will create gold standard products for production floor use during testing and scale-up. This position will assist and support the Executive Chef and Culinary Innovation Team, including design and finishing work, travel (when needed), documentation, meetings, vendor and customer visits, conference calls, testing raw materials, maintaining retain samples, and kitchen sanitation and cleanliness. This role is expected to represent the Culinary Innovation Team with the highest degree of professionalism and expertise.

The typical hiring range for this role is $65,000 to $75,000 annually and is based on several factors such as education, work experience, skills, certifications, location, etc. In addition to pay, Dessert Holdings offers benefits such as a choice of comprehensive medical plans, dental and vision insurance, paid vacation and holidays, and retirement contribution to all eligible employees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision in decoration and assembly
  • Support customer and chef on the production floor
  • Maintain quality in existing products in production
  • Travel to support Executive Chef and customer when required
  • Prepare high-quality samples for customer presentation and sign off
  • Construct proof of concept samples for new desserts to support innovation and sales
  • Stay current on trending desserts and baked goods
  • Assist with development of new products within time, cost, and processing requirements
  • Provide data for the design and development of product specifications
  • Exceptional palate and sensory skills
  • Maintain and organize refrigerator and freezer retains, purging on a regular basis
  • Help maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen and office area
  • Perform other duties and projects assigned
  • Continuous improvement and team building skill mindset

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s Degree in Pastry Arts/Baking
  • 3-5 years hands-on experience in Baking/Pastry Arts
  • High volume kitchen production experience desired
  • Photography and food styling are an asset
  • Requires intermediate skill level of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
