Job summary

Okta is seeking a Senior Director, R&D Planning & Operations to run the financial and workforce operating engine for ORD and Auth0. The role requires leading a 2,000+ person organization, shaping the budget, forecasting AI spend, and guiding investment decisions with executive leadership.

Based in a hub (SF, Seattle, or Chicago) with strong cross-functional influence, you will own P&L for R&D lines, implement capitalized software controls, and drive data-driven cost visibility across engineering

Qualifications

12+ years of work experience with leadership in tech operations or FP&A.
Experience managing engineering or R&D budgets at scale.
Experience with Capitalized Software accounting and R&D tax credit programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

Own the budget and workforce strategy components of the R&D Operating Plan.
Direct R&D budget governance for a 2,000+ person organization.
Own and evolve the P&L framework for R&D lines of business.
Model AI token spend and build forecasting frameworks.
Lead engineering cost modeling and partner on margin analysis.
Own financial compliance for R&D, including Capitalized Software entries and tax credits.
Build and own the expense data platform on Snowflake for cost visibility.
Set workforce strategy and headcount governance with Recruiting.
