Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems LLC is seeking a Materials Test Operator to support our mechanical testing and characterization laboratory in MA. You will handle tensile, fatigue, and metallographic work, report data, and maintain equipment, while collaborating with engineers and technicians.

The role emphasizes careful data collection, test execution in varied environments, and proactive communication with internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 2 years' experience with materials prep and basic testing tools.
• Experience with mechanical and electrical assembly, vacuum and cryogenic systems, soldering.
• Commitment to safety and ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills.
• Able to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare test specimens and run laboratory experiments.
• Improve materials testing lab processes.
• Manage inventory for consumables and spare parts.
• Handle Jira tickets and QBench orders per SOPs.
• Operate testing equipment and fixtures for diverse tests.
• Document data with meticulous accuracy and report results.
• Support calibration and maintenance of lab instruments.
• Work on multiple assignments with flexible priority.
