Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Materials Test Operator to support our mechanical testing and characterization laboratory. You will prepare specimens and conduct tests including tensile, compression, and fatigue, while reporting data and maintaining equipment.

The role requires lab-minded rigor, strong attention to detail, and safety adherence in a fast-paced R&D environment. As part of CFS, you’ll collaborate with engineers and technicians, handle metallographic prep and microscopy,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with basic materials prep and testing tools.
• Experience with Instron-based systems and metrological instrumentation is a plus.
• Ability to follow procedures, safety policies, and lab protocols.

Responsibilities

• Prepare test specimens and perform laboratory experiments.
• Support mechanical testing including tensile, compression, and fatigue.
• Operate equipment and maintain calibration and data integrity.
• Record, manage, and report testing data to stakeholders.
• Assist in lab maintenance and setup of test stands and fixturing.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians on R&D tasks.
• Adhere to safety procedures and hazardous materials handling.
