Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is offering a Summer 2027 Internship within the Research & Development Leadership Development Program (RDLDP) for engineering graduate students. The 12-week program covers varied R&D platforms and provides classroom and on-the-job training to build technical skills, business acumen, and cross-functional proficiency.

You’ll participate in rotations across Irvine, CA and other U.S.

Qualifications

• Current graduate students enrolled in an engineering graduate program and on track to earn a master’s degrees by June 2028.
• Preferred majors: bioengineering, computer, electrical, mechanical, material science, robotics, systems, software and optical engineering.
• Strongly preferred skill or experience with machine learning, deep machine learning, IoT, embedded software, prototyping, robot design, systems reliability, firmware, and hardware integration.
• Understanding of ethical considerations and responsible AI practices, ensuring compliance with industry standards and organizational policies.
• Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, evaluate, and adopt new AI tools and ways of working to meet evolving business needs.
• Ability to collaborate with technical teams to identify AI opportunities, evaluate feasibility, and accelerate AI-enabled ways of working adoption.
• Minimum GPA of 3.3 strongly preferred.
• Valid leadership experience—and previous R&D internship experience with J&J—highly preferred.
• Ability to relocate anywhere in the U.S. as required for program rotations

Responsibilities

• Participate in a 12-week internship across multiple R&D platforms.
• Rotate through assignments to identify high-potential talent for full-time programs.
• Gain in-depth classroom and practical training, building technical skills and cross-functional proficiencies.
• Develop leadership and collaboration capabilities to drive AI-enabled projects.
