Job summary

Subsense is seeking a hands-on R&D Engineering Laboratory Technician to support electrical, optical, mechanical, and experimental hardware development at our Mountain View lab. You will keep the lab running by preparing test setups, assembling prototypes, and maintaining inventory to ensure engineers have tools to run experiments.

This role demands meticulous organization, practical soldering and fabrication skills, and the ability to collaborate with electrical, optical, and bioengineering

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in electronics, electrical, optical, or mechanical labs.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Troubleshoot across disciplines with proactive problem-solving.
• Excellent documentation and inventory management.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced R&D environment.
• Experience with prototype assembly, soldering, and test setups.
• Familiarity with ESD practices and safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, organized engineering laboratory.
• Develop systems for equipment storage and workflow.
• Support ESD and equipment maintenance.
• Assemble and rework prototype PCBs and electronics.
• Solder and inspect miniature SMT components under a microscope.
• Assist with PCB bring-up and hardware debugging.
• Set up optical experiments and align components.
• Fabricate fixtures and enclosures with 3D printing and basic machining.
• Run experiments and reproduce configurations.
• Manage instrument calibration and data acquisition systems.
• Track inventory and maintain component stock.
• Document procedures and lab processes.
