Job summary

RHI Magnesita is seeking a hands-on R&D Laboratory Technician to support development of next-generation refractory products and processes. The role spans laboratory and industrial settings, involving collaboration with engineers, scientists, product managers, and operations professionals to test, prepare, pilot, and analyze data for product improvements.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in a technical field
• Experience in laboratory testing or materials environments
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Ability to follow procedures and standardized work instructions
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Support R&D engineers and scientists in evaluating refractory materials, products, and processes
• Prepare laboratory batches, samples, and test specimens per project requirements
• Assist with laboratory-scale and pilot-scale trials for product development and process improvements
• Execute test plans and communicate results to project teams
• Perform physical, thermal, chemical, and mechanical testing of refractory materials
• Operate lab equipment for density, porosity, LOI, MOR, and microscopy sample prep
• Maintain sample identification, traceability, and storage records
• Record, verify, and manage laboratory data and test results
• Support technical reporting and project documentation
• Maintain lab equipment through inspection, calibration, and maintenance
• Assist with inventory management and lab housekeeping
• Promote safety by following EH&S requirements and PPE usage
