Novelis in the Global R&D group in Kennesaw, GA invites an engineering intern for a ~12-week summer program to explore surface chemistry, coatings, and rolling lubricants as part of aluminum processing and recycling projects.

The role emphasizes safety training, lab technique development, data collection and analysis, and collaboration with scientists and engineers to drive process improvements within a state-of-the-art research center.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a four-year university pursuing a relevant science/engineering degree.
• Sophomore year completed by internship start.
• Able to work full-time for ~12 weeks during Summer 2027.
• Basic understanding of chemistry and laboratory practices.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures and safety rules.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Complete required safety training and follow laboratory safety procedures, including PPE use and chemical handling.
• Learn laboratory techniques and analytical methods to support projects.
• Perform laboratory testing to characterize surface chemistry, coatings, lubricants, and related materials.
• Operate and support routine use of laboratory instruments under supervision.
• Collect, organize, and analyze data to identify trends and support conclusions.
• Document experiments and results in notebooks, data files, and reports clearly.
• Prepare technical summaries and present findings to team and stakeholders.
• Maintain laboratory organization and housekeeping for an efficient workspace.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technologists to support R&D projects and continuous improvement.
