Novelis, a global leader in aluminum recycling and rolling, invites applications for a Tribochemistry Co-Op in the Surface Science team at our Kennesaw, Georgia facility. The position runs ~5 months starting May 2027 and focuses on developing lab methods to simulate emulsion conditions and evaluate tribological performance and surface chemistry of aluminum.

Ideal candidates are undergraduate seniors or graduate students in chemistry, materials science, or related fields with hands-on lab

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate student pursuing degrees in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Enrolled in an accredited 4-year undergraduate or 2-year masters program.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain emulsion formulations under controlled laboratory conditions.
• Design and execute experiments (DoE) to simulate emulsion aging under operating conditions.
• Conduct tribological testing and emulsion characterization.
• Characterize aluminum surface changes from emulsion studies using analytical techniques.
• Analyze results and summarize findings in technical reports and presentations.
