Job summary

Novelis invites rising engineers to join its Global R&D team in Kennesaw, GA for a 12-week summer internship. You will assist the laboratory team in characterizing surface chemistry, coatings, rolling lubricants, and related materials to support process troubleshooting.

Expect hands-on testing, data collection, and reporting, with mentorship from scientists and engineers. Training includes laboratory safety and exposure to instruments such as FTIR, GC‑MS, microscopy, and spectroscopy.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a four-year university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering
• Must have completed at least sophomore year by internship start
• Able to work full-time for ~12 weeks during Summer 2027 internship
• Basic chemistry, laboratory practices, data collection, and problem solving
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Responsibilities

• Complete required safety training and follow laboratory safety procedures
• Learn laboratory techniques and analytical methods to support projects
• Perform safe and accurate laboratory testing for surface chemistry, coatings, and lubricants
• Operate and support laboratory instruments under supervision
• Collect, organize, and analyze data to identify trends and support conclusions
• Document work clearly in notebooks and data files
• Prepare technical summaries and present findings to the team
• Assist with laboratory organization and housekeeping
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers on R&D projects
