Job summary

The Global R&D team at NOVELIS, based in Kennesaw, GA, offers a 12-week engineering internship for summer 2027. You will work with the laboratory team to characterize surface chemistry, coatings, and rolling lubricants related to aluminum processing and recycling.

Qualified candidates are undergrad students in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields, with at least sophomore standing, and must be eligible to work in the United States without

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited four-year university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
• Must have completed at least sophomore year by the start of the internship
• Ability to work full-time for approximately 12 weeks during the summer 2027 internship program
• Basic understanding of chemistry, laboratory practices, data collection, and technical problem solving
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

• Complete all required safety training and follow Novelis laboratory safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and safe chemical handling practices
• Complete training in laboratory techniques and analytical methods needed to support assigned projects
• Perform laboratory testing in a safe, responsible, and accurate manner to support characterization of surface chemistry, coatings, rolling lubricants, and related materials
• Operate and support routine use of laboratory instruments and equipment under supervision
• Collect, organize, and analyze laboratory data to identify trends, compare results, and support technical conclusions
• Document experimental work, observations, and results clearly in laboratory notebooks, data files, and summary reports
• Prepare detailed technical summaries and present findings to laboratory team members and project stakeholders
• Assist with laboratory organization and general housekeeping to maintain an efficient working environment
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technologists to support R&D projects, process troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities
