Job summary

3M is seeking an Undergraduate and Master’s Research & Development Intern for Summer 2027, on-site at Maplewood, MN or Austin, TX. You’ll collaborate with global teams, support new technologies, and document experiments in lab notebooks while developing technical and leadership skills.

The role requires pursuing a science/engineering degree, completion of freshman year, and interest in areas like chemical engineering, materials, data science, or software. Housing/transport stipends are provided.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in science or engineering.
• Must have completed Freshman Year (2 semesters) by start of internship.
• Fields such as Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Software Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Biomolecular Engineering or related disciplines preferred.
• Experience with machine learning, data science, AI, statistics or software engineering is a plus.
• Fluent in understanding, manipulating, cleansing, and visualizing complex data.

Responsibilities

• Assist development of new technologies and support existing products.
• Collaborate with researchers across 3M to advance projects.
• Document detailed experimental records and communicate results.
• Lead assigned projects toward technical solutions when appropriate.
• Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills.
