Job summary

3M is seeking a PhD Research & Development Intern for Summer 2027. You will collaborate with researchers worldwide to advance technologies and products, building your technical and leadership skills.

You will work on projects spanning corporate technology, product engineering, and digital science, applying ML, AI, and data science to real-world challenges while developing experimental methods and reports.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a PhD degree in science or engineering from an accredited institution.
• Experience in machine learning, deep learning, data science, computer vision, artificial intelligence, statistics, software engineering, and/or applied mathematics.
• Strong scientific and technical acumen, with demonstrated interest and ability to make connections between science/technology and real-world concerns.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with global R&D teams to support development of new technologies and products.
• Contribute to process and technology advances, and documentation of results.
• Assist in experiments, data analysis, and interpretation to guide product development.
• Work with senior researchers on assigned product/technology projects.
• Document detailed experimental records for invention submissions or patent considerations.
