Job summary
Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a strategic Director, R&D Finance to serve as the primary finance partner to Discovery Research and Preclinical Sciences. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, FP&A, or related roles with life sciences experience preferred.
- Experience building driver-based financial models (FTE, program costs, CRO/vendor spend).
- Experience deploying AI-enabled tools and automation to improve planning and forecasting.
- Ability to translate complex data into executive recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Partner with VP/SVP leaders across Discovery Research and Preclinical Sciences to influence strategy and investments.
- Lead planning cycles: budget, forecasts, long-range planning with pipeline strategy alignment.
- Develop multi-scenario models to support portfolio decisions and resource prioritization.
- Deliver variance analyses, trend analyses, and executive commentary for scientific leadership.
- Oversee financial tracking for research collaborations and agreements; ensure compliance with policies.
