R&D Engineer/Scientist I - SEM/TEM Scientist

Honeywell UOP, headquartered in Des Plaines, Illinois, USA, is a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, process plants, and consulting services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries. UOP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honeywell International, Inc., and is part of Honeywell's Performance Materials and Technologies strategic business group.

Honeywell UOP seeks a highly organized, qualified R&D scientist with hands-on laboratory experience to support electron microscopy efforts within the Materials Characterization department, part of UOP's Research & Development organization.

This entry-level position requires the candidate to effectively operate and maintain Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) and Scanning/Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM/STEM). The role involves data compilation and processing, as well as communicating results to customers. The individual will collaborate with engineers and scientists across Research, Development, and Field Services, contributing to complex materials and characterization projects.

The annual base salary range for this position is $65,000-$81,500. Salary offers will consider factors such as experience, education, skills, and market conditions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 2 years' hands-on laboratory experience
  • At least 2 years' experience with SEM
  • At least 2 years' experience with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX)
  • At least 1 year experience with TEM/STEM
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of SEM, TEM/STEM, and EDX
  • Experience operating optical microscopes and characterizing heterogeneous catalysts, molecular sieves, and nanomaterials
  • Well-organized, capable of multitasking, and proficient in documentation
  • Team-player with a curiosity for science and ability to adapt in dynamic research environments
