Responsibilities

• Perform full 3D scanning workflow: scanning, data cleaning, alignment, calibration, validation, export.
• Generate and deliver accurate STP/STEP engineering files.
• Scan vehicles and OE components including engine compartments and underbody areas.
• Remove, inspect, scan, and reinstall automotive components as required.
• Collect and verify key dimensions and installation data.
• Perform dimensional verification and additional scanning when necessary.
• Install and evaluate prototypes on vehicles to verify fitment and interference.
• Document scanning, installation, and validation activities through measurements, photos, videos, and technical records.
• Communicate findings and validated data clearly with engineering and product development teams.

R&D Engineer – 3D Scanning & Vehicle Validation

About the Role

We are looking for a hands‑on R&D Engineer to support vehicle data collection and product validation activities in the Dallas area.

This role involves working directly with vehicles, automotive components, and 3D scanning equipment. The primary responsibility is to complete the full 3D scanning workflow, collect and validate accurate vehicle and component data, and deliver STP/STEP files to the engineering team.

This is not primarily a product design or CAD modeling role. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working hands‑on with vehicles, removing and reinstalling components, operating 3D scanning equipment, and ensuring the accuracy of collected engineering data.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform the full 3D scanning workflow, including scanning, data cleaning, alignment, calibration, validation, and export
• Generate and deliver accurate STP/STEP engineering files for engineering and product development use
• Perform 3D scanning of vehicles and OE components, including engine compartments, underbody areas, structural areas, and product installation environments
• Remove, inspect, scan, and reinstall automotive components as required
• Collect and verify key dimensions and installation data
• Perform dimensional verification and additional scanning when necessary to ensure data accuracy and completeness
• Install and evaluate prototypes on vehicles to verify fitment, interfaces, available space, and potential interference
• Document scanning, installation, and validation activities through measurements, photos, videos, and technical records
• Communicate findings and validated data clearly with engineering and product development teams

What We're Looking For

• Hands‑on experience with 3D scanning and scan‑data processing
• Ability to independently complete a 3D scanning workflow from physical data capture through cleaned, aligned, calibrated, and export‑ready data
• Experience generating or working with STP/STEP engineering files
• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform hands‑on vehicle component removal, installation, and inspection
• Experience working with vehicles, automotive components, mechanical products, dimensional inspection, metrology, or physical product validation
• Strong attention to detail and ability to verify engineering data for accuracy and completeness
• Ability to communicate technical findings clearly with engineering teams
• Background in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Development, or a related field is preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience scanning vehicles or automotive components
• Experience with professional 3D scanning or metrology equipment and related software
• Familiarity with automotive engine‑compartment and underbody components
• Experience with prototype installation, fitment validation, dimensional inspection, or scan‑data processing workflows
• Comfortable working independently in a hands‑on engineering environment
