Job summary

Safariland in Jacksonville, FL is seeking a self-motivated R&D Design Technician to join our Engineering and Product Development teams. The role focuses on pattern design, fabrication, prototype assembly and testing of thermoform holsters and related firearm accessories.

Responsibilities include 2D to 3D pattern work, testing with engineers, and creating tooling to support production. On-site, full-time role with opportunities to contribute across stages of product development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years in pattern making, design or thermoforming fabrication preferred.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude and creative drive.
• Good communication skills and ability to work with others.
• Basic proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools.

Responsibilities

• Design new 2D patterns using materials like Kydex, Boltaron, Cordura and suede.
• Transform patterns into 3D thermoformed holster designs using forming practices.
• Assemble holster test samples and install secondary components with hand or pneumatic tools.
• Test samples with Product Design Engineers and refine designs accordingly.
• Perform fit checks for guns and holster combinations.
• Produce forming stands, inserts, plates and other tooling using fabrication machines.
• Support handoff to Manufacturing Engineering and production.
