The Sherwin-Williams Company is seeking a motivated scientist to join the GSC R&D Colorant team in Illinois. The role focuses on colorant dispersions, raw materials, and product development, including formulation, testing, and application of colorant dispersion and/or paint products.

You will communicate results in written reports and adapt messaging for various audiences. Travel about 10% is required; the position offers bonus eligibility and sponsorship is not provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
• +1 year of pigment dispersion or coating formulation/testing.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis.
• Ability to tint colors to customer specifications.

• Support R&D lab projects to evaluate, develop, and validate colorant formulas.
• Batch-making and testing including weighing, mixing, tinting, drawing down.
• Accurate documentation of lab results and technical information.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the GSC R&D Colorant team working on a variety of projects related to colorant dispersions, raw material and product development. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, formulation, testing and product application of colorant dispersion and/or paint products. This position requires the candidate to communicate effectively both orally and in written reports.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships.

• Supporting R&D lab projects to evaluate, develop, and validate colorant formulas.
• Batch-making and testing to include weighing, mixing, pouring, tinting, drawing down and evaluating.
• Accurate documentation of lab results and technical information.
• Written documentation and verbal presentation of information and the ability to adapt to various audiences.
• Participating in continuous improvement projects to benefit the group and company.
• Developing knowledge and understanding of product lines and colorant systems.
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1,etc.)
• Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• +1 years of experience in pigment dispersion and/or coating formulation, application, and testing
• Basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis
• Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry
• 3 or more years of experience in pigment dispersion formulation/product development and/or raw material projects.
• Project leadership/management experience
• Experience with pigment dispersions or coatings for both architectural and industrial applications.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of quality management skills such as SPC, FMEA, DOE, Six-sigma, and use of statistical software such as Minitab

Travel Requirements: 10%

This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to H-1B visa.

This position is also eligible for bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company's applicable plans.
