Job summary

Afton Chemical Corporation seeks a Chemist/Engineer to perform routine material characterization using SEM/EDS, nanoindentation, scratch testing and profilometry. You will prepare samples, maintain sample-tracking and Quality System documentation while ensuring lab readiness and 5S practices.

You will coordinate with vendors for instrument issues and communicate with customers on timelines. Required are a Bachelor's degree in a relevant science/engineering field and 3–7 years of experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical, Chemical or Materials Engineering (or other relevant science field)
• 3-7 years of relevant working experience
• Experience with ISO or Quality System documentation and 5S practices

Responsibilities

• Perform SEM/EDS to measure chemical composition.
• Perform nanoindentation and scratch testing to measure mechanical properties.
• Measure surface topography using profilometers to assess roughness and wear.
• Prepare samples (cutting, grinding, polishing) for characterization.
• Update test submission queues and keep customers informed of timelines.
• Maintain lab inventory and ensure proper 5S organization.
