Job summary

CPS Inc. in Florida is seeking an experienced R&D Chemist to join its family‑owned coatings team. The role focuses on bench‑scale formulation of prototype paints and coatings and hands‑on testing of applications on steel, plastic and wood surfaces.

You will document results in lab notebooks, contribute to process development for plant production, and collaborate with quality control. A B.S. in Chemistry and 1–3 years in paint/coatings labs are preferred.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of lab experience in paint and coatings.
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field.
• Experience with color matching and spray application.
• Basic knowledge of polymers, resins, pigments, solvents, and additives.

Responsibilities

• Lab formulation: mix, blend, and compound raw materials at bench scale to create prototype paints and coatings.
• Apply coatings to steel, plastic, and wood substrates via hand spray or aerosol cans.
• Conduct performance testing including gloss, adhesion, weathering, and color matching.
• Maintain precise laboratory notebooks and document test results and processing steps.
• Assist in processing trials to ensure lab formulas can be manufactured in the plant.

Duties

• Lab Formulation: Mix, blend, and compound raw materials at bench scale to create prototype paints and coatings.

• Performance Evaluation: Conduct rigorous testing including gloss, flexibility, adhesion, weathering, and color matching.
• Data Logging: Maintain precise laboratory notebooks and document all test results and processing steps.
• Plant Support: Assist in processing trials to ensure lab formulas can be successfully manufactured in the plant.

Salary $65,000 - $75,000

Technical Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory setting within the paint and coatings industry.
• Basic understanding of polymer / paint chemistry, raw materials (resins, pigments, solvents, additives), and precise laboratory techniques.

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline (Associates degree with strong industry experience considered).
